Leeds Trades Union Council Meeting held on 26 June 2013

The Leeds Trades Union Council discussed how to make their stall at the NHS 65th Birthday Gala a success. It was agreed that there would be recruitment materials from our affiliated unions at the stall and literature on the benefits of trade union membership.

The meeting also wanted to ensure the event acknowledged the attacks by the coalition government on the NHS and encouraged people to campaign against the creeping privatisation agenda.

Local disputes were also discussed and the meeting heard that Unite and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service were now in talks facilitated by ACAS and that the Mid-Yorks NHS Trust Unison dispute had now been settled after the trust offered 2 years of pay protection.

The meeting then discussed the planned NUT North West Teachers strike action and the PCS protest action  on 27 June 2013.

The meeting then agreed to support Hands Off Our Homes in staffing stalls at local festivals in Leeds and to start organising to set up a Speakers in Schools programme for Leeds Trade Union Council. These actions were agreed in recognition of the fact that more needed to be done to raise awareness of the appalling effects of the bedroom tax and the positive contribution which trade unions make to society.
